A healthy studio is more than just fast code, and cool shaders. It’s a demanding business with customers, cash flows, and creditors. Sustainable, profitable growth comes from great sales, marketing, human resources, and finance in addition to product development. A set of financial tools for game development can lead to some of the best decisions a studio can make for products, people, and customers. In this lecture we look at the dollars and cents of it all, and how to design financial management tools that will help you build a great studio.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the following: o A healthy studio is a vibrant business as well as a vibrant creative enterprise o A studio as a system of integrated business and creative activities o Measure the health of the studio by performance of its key functions o Develop a set of key metrics unique to an individual studios needs, and managing by those metrics o Develop a model for sustainable growth that allows for creation of great games on time

This session would most benefit individuals who are involved in building or running a game studio, those interested in starting a new studio, or those simply interested in positively influencing the health of the company he/she works for. The session requires a basic business knowledge and facility with business concepts.
