Description: The video game industry needs help. We need to stop seeing people different from us as "other", or at least stop seeing "other" ideas as anything but an opportunity to grow our businesses, change our ways of thinking and improve our games. This talk explores the issues we face, the potential we each have and the social fabric that we exist within in order to pursue discussion and implementable strategies.
Takeaway: The definition of Feminism (this is surprisingly not well-understood): Feminism is a collection of movements aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic and social rights and equal opportunities for women. (ie. NOT women seeking to prove they are better than men, and other misunderstandings). Diverse teams are more productive, innovative and valuable than homogeneous ones. So why aren't we seeing more diversity in our teams? This industry needs to be fluid, agile and adaptive in order to remain fresh. Gender inequality, lack of diversity in our teams and overall inequity of opportunity is everyone's problem, and we all need to work together to find a solution.
