Game Design, Lecture

Seth Luisi
Senior Producer, Sony Computer Entertainment America
With the mass market acceptance of online console gaming comes all new challenges. Console game developers are now faced with the difficult task of creating not just an innovative and cutting edge single player game, but also an in-depth, easy to use and compelling online game experience. Using the practices and lessons learned during the creation of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs and the sequel SOCOM II as an example, this lecture will focus on how to overcome the online console gaming frontier. The topics to be covered include managing the resources conflict between single player and multi-player, creating a competitive online game, designing an online UI which a console player will understand and the challenges and pitfalls of developing an online console game.
