Game Design, Lecture

Paul Sage
Designer, NCSoft
The speaker explores reputation systems in online communities. The session covers what a reputation system is, how to properly identify anti-social elements in the community and how to identify design elements which contribute to anti-social behavior. During the presentation the speaker described benefits of a reputation system in keeping customer service costs down and increasing the satisfaction levels of the community. The lecture coverd tools and systems that have been effective and ineffective in large-scale communities. The speaker places emphasis on trust systems and social marking systems that place the majority of the tools in the hands of the players.

Attendees should come away from the lecture with an understanding of what a "reputation system" is, its value, the tools associated with a reputation system, and the pratfalls of improper or no implementation of a reputation system.
