Who hasn’t noticed some common themes in game development post-mortems over the years? Among these are the pitfalls of a rapid expansion in team size. As games become more complex to develop and budgets skyrocket, many small developers are finding themselves working on more projects with larger teams. Thus many of us are poised to make the same mistakes as those who suffered before. Fortunately there are resources available to those who are willing to learn from the experiences of others. The speakers discuss their experiences in expanding Factor 5 from a one-great-game-at-a-time developer to an organization capable of producing multiple AAA titles for the next generation of consoles.

There is no reason for every developer to face the challenge of growth alone. Like many small developers, Factor 5 has expanded from making one high-profile game at a time to multiple titles, and we want to share some lessons learned along the way. Attendees gain information through the experience and research during Factor 5’s expansion to help them make their transition more gracefully.

This talk is directed at producers, executives, and other decision makers at small developers who are contemplating rapid growth in the future and would like to avoid growing pains. There are no prerequisites.
