Level Design, a further extension of many over-all Game Design mentalities, may be able to be thought of as a more universal medium of development then it currently is. Just as its Game Design counterpart. There most likely are many different aspects of the role a Level Designer plays that are shared with each and every game that requires them, despite the genre. What are the universal aspects of Level Design that transcend all genre categorizations and how do they help us make a better level? It is my goal to explore this question of Level Design with some of the leading Level Design and Game Design veterans in the community. Each expert will be taken from a different dominate game genre and share their thoughts on a series of topics relating to the over-all question.

Using a Panel format will allow the audience exposure to multiple contrasting opinions and expertise as we explore each of the questions related to the topic. The audience will be presented with conclusions about the commonalities between Level Design in different genres and how to apply those commonalities to designing better content. Using directed questions and "war stories" from real world examples, the Panel will share how and why the conclusions reached will aid the audience in asking new questions about their designs that could not normally be seen staying inside their own genre community. Identifying these universal aspects will bring the mentality of Level Design into a new and valuable direction.
