Description: While Doublesix is a small publisher/developer, we have worked with some major IP – including Top Gun, South Park and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - and have now licensed some big-name brands ourselves. Is licensing the right thing to do? What effects does it have on a studio and its market? Has this been a good thing for Doublesix? Would we do it again? Importantly: how do you go about licensing without a large dedicated team and big pockets?
Takeaway: Attendees will gain an understanding of the process of acquiring a licence/brand, including how to start their choices, the best places to start conversations and how deals work. Additionally, attendees will understand what Doublesix did, why we decided to license, what our process was and - crucially - was it the right decision?
Intended Audience: This talk isn't aimed at those who are already licensing experts working for big publishers; it's for smaller outfits - such as Doublesix - who might be newer to publishing and the intricacies of licensing. It's also for those who have thought about a licensed IP route for their games, but might be unsure if it's a good idea or out of their league.
