Most modern games require increasingly intensive scene post-processing to deliver amazing graphics. This talk presents a method of using a GPU sorting algorithm to update exposure, tone mapping, and other settings entirely on the GPU, while avoiding costly CPU synchronization that is common in other techniques. A fast parallel sort of scene color and depth values enables quick and accurate sampling of important levels in these data sets, such as the minimum, maximum, and median points of each. Finally, this session will also provide techniques that use these values to improve the speed and quality of post-processsing.
