The rise of mobile and multi-touch interfaces has spurred the advance of new interaction types; until recently these have all been constrained to the X/Y world of the 2D interface. 3D games have had to make do with combinations of keys, mouse and joysticks to interpret the users intentions in the 3D space. In this session, Eddie Lee of Funktronic Labs will explore, in light of new 3D input and gesture technologies hitting the market, the opportunities present for app developers and the nuances 3D input introduces when thinking about app design and user experience.
Takeaway
3D input technologies are more than just a new way of interacting with an app. Designers must also think about new design patterns that are only just emerging as well as the use of audio and visual feedback mechanisms to give the user a truly immersive experience.
