Description

3Up/3Down

Speakers: Doug Whatley, Jesse Schell, Jim Parker, Richard Van Eck, Roger Smith

Track: SGS: Behind the Game

Format: Panel

Experience Level: Intermediate

Description: Last year's Serious Games Summit GDC featured an introspective session titled, "What's Wrong With Serious Games," where panelists used the time to focus on what problems existed in the space as means of keeping what is otherwise an extremely upbeat gathering honest. This year we create a new session to fuel such introspection titled 3up/3down.

A group of serious games stalwarts will each present their own list of three positive developments in the serious games space during the past year and three negative developments. In the case of the negative developments each member will also offer one potential way of solving the problem identified. In all cases the panelists will be pressed to avoid the obvious conventional wisdom statements such sessions could motivate.

Intended Audience: Attendees will get a chance to collectively take stock of the serious games space and participate in a forum that provides some insight on the overall community challenges that exist in establishing this still emergent use of games and game technologies.
