Description
At GDC 2008, Chris Hecker put forth a fascinating, mind-bending theory about hard interactive problems. He claimed that solutions to such problems usually have a deep structure vs style decomposition. Graphics has many of these decompositions (one example is the texture mapped triangle) where the computer can reason efficiently about the structure and artists can apply the style using tools, which has allowed computer graphics to blossom and significantly impact games. Similarly, AI is a hard interactive problem, and the theory predicts that powerful solutions to the AI problem will have a structure vs style decomposition, which would allow AI to make an equally large impact. Can AI be decomposed in such a way so that someday we might have a Photoshop of AI? This panel will explore the possible structure vs style decompositions for AI and discuss what a Photoshop of AI might look like. Prepare yourself for an epic philosophical rant!
