Your Project Name, LLC: Funding Projects by Forming New Companies
Speakers: Lane Kiriyama
Track: Business and Management
Format: Lecture
Experience Level: All
Description: The XBox Live Arcade and PC downloadable games offer tremendous opportunities for developers to create and publish titles for both hard-core and casual gamers. Not all developers are in a position to completely fund these projects with internal cash flow, savings, publisher contracts, or conventional financing. Many developers need to obtain funds from outside investors. Forming a Limited Liability Company (LLC) around a single title is one effective avenue for handling that investment. See how Wahoo Studios' NinjaBee Division used LLC's to fund XBox Live Arcade titles while protecting their Intellectual Property and company ownership.
Idea Takeaway: The attendee will have a basic understanding of the Limited Liability Company structure and how it can be used as a vehicle for funding internal development projects.
Intended Audience: This session is for owners, executives and managers of game development companies who handle the business side of the studio.
