Writing Great Design Documents

Speakers: Damion Schubert

Track: Game Design

Format: Lecture

Experience Level: All

Description: As development teams grow larger and designs become more complex, it becomes increasingly more important for design teams to write and maintain clear, consistent and easily understood design documentation to provide reference and direction for the rest of the team. Providing clean design documentation is among the most important tasks a design team has, and yet, too many development teams end up with document that is incomplete, overwritten, sloppy, inconsistent or just plain unprofessional. In the absence of good documentation, projects drift; it’s not uncommon for coders develop systems ad hoc as designers become frustrated. This roundtable is intended for designers to get together to discuss strategies to improve the quality of their design documentation and the processes that derive them.

Idea Takeaway: * How to improve the quality of your design documentation. * How to improve the processes which develop designs and documentation. * How to keep documentation consistent and up-to-date.

Intended Audience: This roundtable is intended for designers and producers, especially those on large projects, who want to improve the quality of their documentation, or who have had success in the past and are willing to share the secrets of that success.
